Alpes Mediterranée Provence

Calanques National Park

The Calanques National Park is the first national park in Europe to be, at the same time, terrestrial, marine and peri-urban and the first national metropolitan park created since 1979. This tenth French national Park aims to allow everyone to be able to admire, work and live sustainably, in harmony with nature whilst respecting the cultural identity of the area. Its main objectives are to preserve sustainably and promote the nature, landscapes and culture of the area; to reconcile the protection of nature with human activities within the immediate proximity of the second town in France, Marseille;  to welcome, inform and increase public awareness;  to fight pollution of the land and the sea.
