The Domaine de la Palissade is a protected natural site, owned by the Coastal Protection agency, located in the Camargue, near the village of Salin de Giraud, in the commune of Arles. Access is regulated and accessible to the public on foot, either individually or on guided tours, and also to those on horseback. Located between the Mediterranean sea and the Grand-Rhône, it lies away from the dams. Its unique position means the Estate remains part of the original Camargue. The diversity of the surroundings – lush “ripsylve” (riparian forest), “saladette” (sea lavender), “sansouire”, “montilles” (sandy dunes with rough pastures) and reed beds – together with its wealth of fauna, make this a premium site for the observation of the natural environment of the Camargue.
3 footpaths for exploring this land, ranging from 1.5 to 8 km, with observation points, are planned so that walkers can appreciate at their own pace this small protected area of the Camargue. From April to October, guided treks on horseback, with commentaries on animal and plant life, are available upon reservation.
