The Regional Tourism Board Provence-Alps-Cote d’Azur has selected for you a list of eco-labels, certificates or seals of eco-quality, attributed to businesses – accommodation, places to eat, travel organisations which guarantee environmentally friendly management of the service or preservation of natural riches or local knowledge. All the labels listed below are well established in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
Bistrot de Pays
Choosing a Bistrot de Pays is to choose an eating place where you can find out about local places of interest, interact, and meet those living in your holiday destination…but also where you can taste the unique local food made from the riches of our land.
The designation Chouette Nature is applied to holiday centres of the association Cap France. It is based on the ISO 14001 standard which encourages a system of continual progress in terms of managing the environment. This label requires considerable training and awareness on the part of the personnel of the establishment and is part of a plan for the land which involves local populations.
La Clef Verte
Of Danish origin, the Clef Verte label includes around a hundred compulsory and optional criteria allowing providers of accommodation with ecolabels to be recognised for their commitment to the quality of the environment. All forms of accommodation are included, from hotels to campsites, including furnished accommodation, chambres d’hôtes (B & B), gîtes (rural holiday rentals), youth hostels and even restaurants.
Ecogîte of Gîtes de France
The qualification Ecogîte is attributed to accommodation labelled Gîtes de France designed or restored using techniques or materials recognised as having had a low impact on the environment during its construction or deconstruction.This qualification rewards providers who know how to combine eco-management with eco-construction.
The Ecolabel Européen is a Community label recognised throughout all the member states of the European Union. Around 50 categories of products and services are likely to be accorded an ecolabel, including tourist accommodation services. In France, it is provided by Afnor Certification, an organisation which guarantees throughout the term, to respect the criteria required.
Gîte Panda is a qualification accorded to gîtes or chambres d’hôtes in the network Gîtes de France, situated (except in exceptional circumstances) in a national Park or a regional natural Park co-managed with the international association WWF (World Wild Foundation). The owners of these establishments undertake to protect the environment and suggest activities to raise awareness as part of the scheme.
Green Globe is a form of certification of Australian origin whose numerous criteria take into account social, societal and environmental factors by bringing levers of action, at the level of enterprise, to combat problems such as the greenhouse effect, over-consumption of water, the production of waste and the destruction of biodiversity.
Hôtels au Naturel
Hôtels au naturel is a seal of eco-quality developed by the Fédération Nationale des Parcs Naturels Régionaux (National Federation of Regional Natural Parcs) aimed at hotels situated within the territory of a park. The frame of reference for this seal rests on 3 strong values of the regional natural parks: attachment to the territory, the taking into account of the importance of the human aspect and respect for the environment.
The label “Jardin Remarquable” identifies gardens of special interest, both private and public, protected or not protected, in the same way as monuments or sites. This national label is given for a duration of 5 years and is managed by the Directions régionales des affaires culturelles (D.R.A.C.).
Marque “Parc naturel régional”
The seal of eco-quality “Parc naturel régional” is granted to products, know-how or services which are specifically connected to the territories of the parks. Craft products, farm produce but also tourist accommodation, tours and cultural sites can all benefit from the Park symbol.
